Scripture text: James 1:1-4                 Preacher: Rev David Sutherland               Date 8 November 2015

This sermon marks the commencement of a series of studies in the letter written by James the brother of Jesus in about the year 50 AD, to Jewish Christians dispersed throughout the Gentile nations surrounding the Mediterranean. The first topic addressed by James concerns trials of various kinds, and he identifies two characteristics which  should be evident in Christians who are going through times of trial — joy and wisdom. This sermon focuses on the first of those characteristics, joy.
