Scripture text: Luke 24:1-49     Preacher:  Rev. David Sutherland               Date: 20 April 2014

Faced with widespread disbelief that Christ was raised from the dead, Luke presents the evidence for the truth of the Resurrection, by recounting three events that occurred on that first day of the week following the crucifixion. Those crucial events were the discovery of the empty tomb by the women, the encounter with Jesus on the road to Emmaus, and Christ’s sudden appearance to the eleven that same evening. Strong as the physical evidence  was, Luke focused instead on the testimony of Scripture and on Jesus’ own words as the principal reasons for believing that Christ had indeed risen. The sermon goes on to deal with the far-reaching consequences of Christ’s Resurrection to each one of us.
