Scripture text: Psalm 6                 Preacher: Rev David Sutherland                          Date: 10 August 2014

Composed by David when he was clearly in a state of distress, Psalm 6 is thought by many scholars to relate to Absalom’s rebellion. Faced by the hostility of his enemies at a time when his physical strength has deserted him, and conscious that his own sin has greatly contributed to his grievous circumstances, David utters the words “My soul is greatly troubled” (v.3). Focusing on those words from the viewpoint, firstly of the sufferer enduring the trouble, secondly of the sinner who gave rise to it, and lastly of our Saviour approaching the time of the crucifixion, the sermon finds comfort and encouragement for all those who currently may be passing through a time of trouble.
